After producing Rocket Boys, the story of Homi Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai and India’s science and nuclear programme, Nikkhil Advani grabbed the opportunity to helm an adaptation of Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins’s book Freedom at Midnight.

Advani said he and Danish Khan, Business Head of Sony LIV and StudioNext, were looking for their next project when they realised they both loved "Freedom at Midnight", Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre's defining book on the transition of India from a British colony to a democracy.

After Rocket Boys, which was created by Nikkhil Advani, the filmmaker joined hands again with SonyLIV for a historical political drama titled Freedom At Midnight which revolves around Mahatma Gandhi,
